History of Compass Rose

The compass rose is used to display orientation of the cardinal directions: North, East, South and West – and their intermediate points. It is found on navigational systems, including: nautical charts, beacons, GPS and similar equipment.

The term “rose” came about in the 1300s in Italy.
The term rose refers to the figure’s compass points resembling petals of a flower
